WINDTRE and the Public Administrations working towards the ecological transition and energy savings

Smart City Transformation Academy

Rome, 23 February 2024 – The “Smart City Transformation Academy”, a digital education initiative dedicated to Public Administrations launched by WINDTRE, was held today in Rome. The focus of the initiative was digital technologies for environmental improvement, energy savings, and innovation, as drivers of change for Public Administrations.

In light of the Decree on Renewable and Sustainable Energy Communities (the “CER Decree”) issued by the Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Pichetto Fratin, which came into force on 24 January, establishing the incentives for electricity produced by renewable energy plants for self-consumption, the tools and techniques for monitoring the energy consumption of buildings throughout the country were illustrated. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of energy managers, and the importance of energy efficiency within Public Administrations, and therefore the role of Renewable and Sustainable Energy Communities.

The energy challenge is one of the main factors for the innovation and transformation of production processes: efficient energy use enables public administrations and companies to reduce costs and negative impacts on the environment.

Mayors and local government officials took part in the Transformation Academy. The sessions were led by Toni Federico, the ASVIS Working Group Coordinator for SDGs 7 and 13 (Energy and Climate), and Laura Lapenna, FPA Training Area Manager, with presentations by managers of specialised partner companies.

“The role played by local Public Administrations,” explained Toni Federico, “has now been well established in terms of responsibility and competence. The ecological transition is now able to count on action on the part of local territories and communities, which are often times more engaged than central government bodies.”

Not only does the Transformation Academy aim to build competence,” emphasised Stefania Matrone, Director of the Transformation & Development Office for WINDTRE, “but also to create a concrete pathway to be undertaken together with the administrators of the various local companies, as well as their own collaborators, with the goal of creating a real community for change. In fact, 27 cities that have already signed the Smart City protocol, and can now exchange good practices, for a positive impact on their territories.”
